How To Follow Up After A Public Speaking Gig

In this blog post, we will look at why you always should follow up after a public speaking gig and how.

WHY FOLLOW UP?

Why should you follow up at all? I hope the answer is clear but I will outline it anyway. You show them that you care. Especially when you promised them something, i.e. connect them to others, send them something or similar. Make sure you keep you word and send it to them.

When following up, make sure you always provide value. That could be through sending something that might be of interest to them – something that you created or something that you found relevant for their industry, something that you mentioned in your presentation. You want to stay in people’s mind you want to be remembered. If you don’t follow up, it’s less likely.

HOW TO FOLLOW UP?

There are many ways to follow up. I suggest, follow up with an email. As mentioned above, make sure you include what was promised, provide value and have one clear call to action in your email. Also, send them a LinkedIn connection request and in the connection request message, mention that you have also sent them an email. Sometimes business emails land in the spam folder and you don’t want them to miss it. It would be good if you can even mention this at the end of the presentation. Tell them that you will send a follow up email and tell them to also check their spam folder. In addition to that, thank them in the email for coming to your presentation.

CLEAR CALL TO ACTION

When you follow up, have one clear call to action. What is it that you want them to do after reading your email that you send after your speech/presentation? What other value can you provide? Do you want them to follow you on social media? Do you want them to sign up to your newsletter? Have one clear call to action.

Make a list of all the free valuable things you can offer to your different target groups that you can provide in a follow up email.
