How to be happier
Having a start-up can be draining and demotivating. And sometimes life happens and puts things into a different perspective. Being positive and happy all the time is not possible but we can try our best. I developed a 7-day Happiness Challenge that can help you with this and is available in the Online Community.
Here are the 7 activities you can do to cultivate a happier mindset:
- Positive words
- Body language
- Smile
- The positive side
- Gratitude
- Strengths
- Kindness
Positive words
In this step you should watch your language – especially the one you are using to talk to yourself. Are you using positive thoughts and words? Or are you tearing yourself down by using negative ones? Observe and then change by purposefully change your negative ones into positive ones.
Body language
You can influence your mood a lot with the way you move your body. Standing up straight and doing a ‘superman’ pose can help you to become more positive and happy.
Smile
A smile goes a long way – not only when you smile to others but also just smile for yourself. You are sending positive signals to your brain and help to establish a happier mind-set.
The positive side
Now this is more difficult. It is basically trying to see the positive side of everything. Give it a go!
Gratitude
It is proven that gratitude cultivates a happier mind-set. Being grateful, pointing these things out to yourself and other as well as writing them down makes a huge difference.
Strengths
A lot of times we find it easier to see the negatives and less favourable sides of ourselves instead of focussing on our strengths. Try to keep count of your achievements, acknowledging your strengths and the positive side of yourself.
Kindness
Kindness and gratitude are close friends. Being kind to others will support a positive attitude. But you can only be kind to others if you start by being kind to yourself.
